Go Water Polo!
Shoutout to our amazing El Segundo Water Polo team for making it to CIF this year! Luckily, we had the opportunity to interview one of the team captains, Patrick Wang. We first asked him what some of this season’s highlights were, to which he replied, “one of the biggest highlights of our season was going undefeated during our regular season, despite the several ups and downs throughout it. Another cool highlight was sour sophomore left Cooper hitting a buzzer beater to win the game during our first tournament, and we also ended up winning all three tournaments we entered this season.”
We then asked how he thought this season went. Wang said “the season has gone pretty well, going undefeated and earning the top seed in CIF. Right now we’re focused on that right now. We won our first game yesterday, but we’re still hungry for more.” When asked about the future of the program, he says “we have a lot of talented young guys that can still take this program far. I’m actually excited to see what our team is going to be like in a couple years with our talented underclassmen.”
What Wang loves most about this sport “is how much it involves the whole team to be active, as everyone is able to earn their opportunities to score and make some really cool plays.” If you’re interested in joining Water Polo, he would like for you to hear this message: “it’s never too late to join. I started pretty late and ended up being a captain, so it’s definitely possible to do some cool things even with a late start. I would say during this off-season, join a water polo club to get some experience and talk to one of the current players to get you on the list for next season.”
Something Wang would like to share with the school is “we are in the middle of CIF right now, and it would be awesome for people to come out and support.” Follow Gundo Water Polo on Instagram to stay updated on game days, times, and locations! Go Eagles!!
